The Nairobi Arboretum
The Nairobi Arboretum was established in 1907 by Mr. E Batiscombie, the Deputy Chief Conservator of Forests, as a 30.4 hectares site for exotic tree species trials. It is an emblematic space located in the center of Nairobi next to the State House.
- Nairobi Arboretum was gazetted in 1932.
- It is distinguished by a collection of 330 tree species planted in park-like patterns.
- Since its founding the Nairobi Arboretum has been under the management of the Forest Department (FD) and now Kenya Forest Service.
- It was managed effectively for many decades, but from the 1970s till the early 1990s management levels declined due to increasingly inadequate government funding.

November 27, 2023The arboretum is a large, relaxing and tranquil space with dozens of species of trees and plant life. You can easily come to relax or have a picnic, and I saw several people praying. There are also many monkeys that live in the park, you can’t feed them but they’re friendly and cute.

February 11, 2023Cool place to have a picnic. Has a play area for kids. No prior booking required. We had a hard time with the hawks though🤣. Single use plastics not allowed. Also attend to your nature call before 6pm after that the toilets are closed. Also glad no one came to harass us to leave. Clean after yourself because you found the place clean anyway.

November 11, 2023Entrance fee is ksh.65 per person. Has natural vegetation with trees of more than 30years old. Great place for team building and large group bonding. You will also have a chance of socializing with the chimpanzees.

December 11, 2022Perfect spot for an affordable fun plan. We brought picnic stuff (strictly no plastic or alcohol allowed) and spread ourselves around under the trees. We played board games and tossed a ball around. It was quite a magical day actually. Highly recommended! Sundays can be crowded though…

August 11, 2023It was lovely. It was a great bonding experience with my peers and getting one with nature🏞️. I enjoyed the cheerful sounds of joy from different families and groups of teen enjoying themselves or having birthday parties. The cute babies 👶 and puppies 🐕🐾maybe my neck turn while putting a smile on my face every time I walked past them. Cute monkey families appears in the evening while swinging from 🌲 to tree 🌲 affordable price at the entrance

August 11, 2023Such a beautiful park. My first time here and was really amazed. Quiet and natural. I was worried i wouldnt be able to run thinking paths might be short but There were so many crosspaths that it’s impossible to go through all of them all at once. Bring your water. Has also nice picnic areas might try next time. I just loved how it was quiet and clean

December 11, 2022One of my favorite places in Nairobi so far. Do you want just to chill, are you looking for a place to spend time with your loved one, or you just want to have quiet time and read a catching book without disturbance. This is your best place. Full of trees and amazing and you can even study them or go jogging. Have fun at this place… and when you reach there please come back and tell me what you thought of the place.

April 11, 2023Arboretum, Nairobi city. One gigant forest 🌳 in the middle of the city. Well preserved one finds need path in the middle of the city with the smell of fresh grass and trees. I visited in November while the weather was somewhat chili and raining. But for sure when it’s warmer this is the place to get some rest and lovely green feeling
Gregor van der Mark
December 11, 2022A quiet retreat in the busy city which feels safe because you pay (a minimal) fee to get in and it’ssmall enough for your screams to be heard (hahaha). Perhaps much more interesting if you’re an arborist, as many of the trees are labeled with scientific names and other information. I liked the greenery but the park isn’t particularly beautiful. There were monkeys. It’s 65 Kenyan shillings (0.53US) to enter at the time of this post and payment has to be made by card.

October 11, 2023It is a cool place for team building as well as prayers.
Joseline Nyakoa
August 11, 2023An impressive reserve within the city. The marginal fee (usd0.5) lets one suppose nothing of the biodiversity to be found at scale in this vast space. Varieties of regional and exotic trees, plants are hosts to a number of birds, and even monkeys. A stunning visit, can’t recommend enough to the tourists, curious, joggers or simply for some meditation time being surrounded by nature.
Thomas Villeneuve
December 11, 2020Easy weekend hangout with family. Lush green forest..stroll and take a breath of fresh air away from the city. Grab some good good ice cream from the vendors.👌

November 11, 2023It’s a great and cool space to have those hype fun games and activities. It’s very accessible and has a connection to nature for its beauty and environment. Want to have games and fun as a group, it’s the place to be

December 11, 2022Not a huge park, but very accessible, with Great running trials, lots of people excising in the morning! Entrance fee is 65 per person Enjoyed the variety of plants and small hidden trails, a bit of water running too

December 11, 2022Loved walking 5km at the arboretum. Entry was Kshs 65 and another Kshs 65 for parking fee. I went on a weekday and so it was not crowded. It was serene and peaceful. Love it!

April 11, 2023It’s one of Nairobi’s green spaces. The place is very ideal for family get aways and picnics. Often used for wedding receptions, music concerts and plenty of other events. There’s a good open area. I can definitely recommend it to anyone wishing to connect with nature as there are good nature trails perfect for walks. Enthusiasts on forestry stuff might also find it interesting as there are some very old trees here. It can be accessed from State House Rd.

December 11, 2018I had such a wonderful experience. The Arboretum is perfect for a nice walk or workout at anytime of the day. Cost varies per foreigner or citizen but it is affordable. They don’t let you come in with plastic containers so bring a personal water bottle for liquids if you need to bring one or feel free to buy from the local vendors in the area.
Claudia N.
October 11, 2023The best place to find peace. The monkeys are friendly, the service providers at the entrance are also friendly. It’s peaceful in there, that type you can also get when you need prayers as people also come for their prayers here. It is also preferable for family time, bonding with your loved ones and lovers. It’s the best place to be in a sunny afternoon.
Ivy Atieno
December 11, 2022One of the best urban parks I have visited. Full of trees, animals (yes, even monkeys), and paths. A great way to pass a slow afternoon. I’ve seen many people jog as well. Birdwatchers can come early to see the many species of birds that live in the park. Too bad people leave trash behind them and the monkeys scatter it all around.

December 11, 2021A rare green and peaceful oasis in Nairobi. Loved everything about it.

July 11, 2023Oasis in the middle of the city 🌃! (added more pictures in September 2022) How many cities in the world have such a place in the middle of town?! It’s a beautiful place to be and take a rest from the noises and all. There’s a trail you can walk and jog. If you’re lucky enough like me, you could see a rabbit and porcupines. Make sure you have MPESA to pay the entry fee i.e 65 bobs. They don’t take 💵.
Elias Mulugeta Hordofa
December 11, 2022very quiet place for enjoying weekend and work around , especially cheaper ticket than karura forest

December 4, 2023The charges are written on a manilla chart with a sharpie. KES 65 per person and parking too. Clean air, lots of birds, and quite the tree variety.Single use plastic bottles and paper not allowed. For commercially bottled water, you will have to gulp it down at the entrance and dispose of the bottle before entry into the park.
Kamau Mike
February 11, 2023Very nice place for walking and relaxing . But the guard wont let you to take plastic bottle of water into park. Also they give money for camera and I think it’s not necessary to take camera. I haven’t seen any monkey

June 11, 2023I love the Arboretum. The place is well cared for with no litter. The trees give a very cool natural adventurous feeling. You can sit on the benches or on the grass. Enterance fee is Kenya Shillings 65 for adults and 27 for children. There’s a sizeable parking at 65/= as well. When i visited, the parking was so parked that we had to park on the roadside near the Radisson blu hotel thats close by. No single use plastic bottles allowed inside. Ball games are prohibited at the moment. Watch out for the hawks and monkeys when having a picnic. They can snatch your food in no time

April 11, 2023Always loved the serene environment and tranquility atmosphere. Good variety of Flora and Fauna. Perfect for catching up, picnics, outdoor meetings, retreats, work outs, nature trails and dates (not on weekends since it may get packed).

October 11, 2023Beautifully manicured and also with a natural feel. Plenty of tracks, paved or dirt. Plenty of areas to sit on a bench, log, tree stump or on the grass, as a group or solo. Lots of shade. Happy vibes on the weekends. Toilets available. Most affordable park fees I have experienced at 65ksh.
