Tree Description

I am native to Kenya and other countries in East and Southeast Africa. The tropical and subtropical climates of South America and South Asia have allowed me to become naturalised in some areas within those 2 regions. I thrive in fertile, deep, well-drained soil and in dry, humid forests at high elevations. I am best known for my large, orange, and funnel-shaped flowers that I begin to flower when I am about 3-4 years old. These flowers make me popular to be planted for ornamental purposes. My seeds are edible and are eaten locally in the areas that I am native to but beware of my fruit as they are poisonous when consumed by both humans and animals. My wood is quite soft which allows it to be used for creative carvings and to make drums. I have been used to being planted in reforestation projects as I promote soil conservation.
