I am native to Kenya and especially familiar with the Kikuyu tribe. However, over time I have also spread to South Africa, India, Thailand, and Nigeria. As you may suspect from my native countries, I am especially comfortable in warmer climates, and I am very drought-resistant and therefore can survive with very little water content. Although most of my uses are medicinal, I am also known for my exceptionally sweet fruit which has recently been gaining popularity. It can be eaten plain or can be processed to make pink wine and vinegar. My anti-invasive root systems and the poignant scent makes me popular to plant in urban areas. As I am native to Kenya, I was probably one of the first trees planted in the Arboretum when it was founded.
